Spain is a remarkably modern country, having left the years of Franco well and truly in the past. This is dynamic nation that has grown economically beyond all recognition and has progressive social legislation.
Yet, occasionally one finds a reminder of the tradional Catholic culture here. On Wednesday I was in Málaga, and walked past a shop selling Baby Jesus’ – I quickly took a shot with my phone through the window. One gesture of a more progressive Church is the little black Jesus.
I understand these are popular gifts to kids when they are confirmed into the Catholic Church, usually in May.
