As you know, our neighbour Portugal is one of my favourite countries; it’s such a romantc destination, with great beaches, food and the interior is rich in history.

Close to the Andalusian border is the city of Faro. Recently I stayed at a few hotels in the area, and reviewed them on our luxury travel and hotels site, The Luxury Editor.

The Pousada Palacio de Estoi is part of the network of historic Portuguese properties reimagined as guest houses and hotels.

After a stormy start to our week on the Algarve, the sun has emerged. This is the Pousada Palacio de Estói, a hotel with contemporary rooms built adjacent to this classic palatial property where one finds the hotel’s public spaces. The hotel is just north of Faro so easy to get to from the airport or the motorway from Southern Spain. Pousadas are a network of historic and monumental properties that have been given a new lease of life as hotels. They may not be at the cutting edge of hospitality but they are typically properties with fascinating histories.
