It’s a bit of an annual tradition now, where I post a picture of the first orchids of the season, here around my home in Andalucia. It seems that the butterfly orchids are amongst the first to appear, their rich purples and soft pinks standing out against the spring greens of the countryside.

For a few more pictures from earlier years, check out this selection from 2010, 2012 and last year.
No doubt I will be posting a few more over the coming weeks…okay, got to get back to work….

Hi Andrew, I have written to you before, about a year ago in fact, regarding wild orchids. I was out spotting yesterday and have found a new one I have not seen before and I am unable to identify it. I would like to send you a photo to see if you know what it is. Hope you respond. Kind regards, Steffi
Good to hear from you. I recall last year I couldn’t identify the orchid 🙂 I’m no expert. You can reach me through the contact me button and I can respond. All the best
