Last night we enjoyed a bottle of Conarte 07, from the Ronda Winery, Bodegas Descalzos Viejos. I blogged about their vineyards when I was there on Friday 30th March.
Like most Ronda red wines, this is really robust, intense and delicious with a fantastic ruby, violet colour. (Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah & Merlot).
I love the label – its part of the ‘Conarte’ project that has brought together 10 different painters with 10 different wineries. It started in 2007 and is limited to 4,000 bottles amongst the ten bodegas.
This bottle features a work by Ronda artist, Carlos Aires. A simple composition that looks great contrasted against black. It’s supposedly a contemporary play on classic old Spanish masters, but the bullfighter is not presented as something to laugh at, but more as showing the thin line between comedy and tragedy - like life really!
