We recently enjoyed a wonderful evening in Alhaurin el Grande, at ‘Santiago’s Kitchen’. It was a glorious, balmy evening, perfect for a relaxed dinner in the restaurant’s sheltered, candle-lit courtyard patio.
If you are familiar with this blog you may recall I have written about Santiago’s Restaurant before. Well, now, the original owners, and creators of this special place are back at the helm. Natalie and Allen, after an absence of a few years have returned to this characterful property and reopened the restaurant as Santiago’s Kitchen – so I really wanted to say a few words and let people know the restaurant is open for the summer season.
The changes extend well beyond just a new name. Santiago’s Kitchen, housed in a stunning authentic Andalusian ‘Casona’ (grand house) is completely remodelled. It has a new, larger professional kitchen, new indoor bar, restyled dining room with new tables and chairs; as well as a new first floor area with aspect to the small square in front of the property which is perfect for large groups or private dining. The terrace courtyard patio has also been remodelled with new fountain, seating and bar.
In fact the entire restaurant has been reimagined for a new era; the style is contemporary and uncluttered yet with classic period touches such as extravagant chandeliers and ornate frames which bring warmth and style to the understated, muted tones of the interior.
What’s probably more important, considering it’s a restaurant, is that the food is excellent! The new menu offers creative, original, fresh, healthy dishes that bring together flavours from the Mediterranean and Asia.
Presentation is relaxed yet stylish.
The chefs are clearly passionate about their work and do a great job.
Natalie and Allen are ’front of house’, so you will meet them when you visit. The restaurant is open 6 days a week (closed Thursdays).
