We ended our trip to La Doñana in the port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The town is home to Manzanilla sherry and is also famous for its horse racing on the beaches in August.
Like so many poor Andalusian towns first impressions are not promising, but take a moment to explore this fascinating port and you’ll find beautiful crumbling palaces, shady courtyards and old bodegas.
The town is also renowned for its langoustines – they have a sort of striped shell when cooked; and of course they are delicious with the Manzanilla! This year there is also a Tapas Route with a number fo the town’s bars taking part.
The town’s sherry festival is coming up shortly – Feria de Manzanilla during May 15 – 20
