Nerja and the Costa Tropical

Today we returned to a small sea view hotel in the small village of Maro, east of Nerja at the beginning of the Costa Tropical. It's sleppy corner of the Costa del Sol, with a private bay and beach, and just a few old folk in town during the winter. Rafa and I came here on one of our first Andalucia weekends away back in 2005 (Click on entries for 'Maro' and you'll see the entry). Sadly the hotel has deteriorated and is not worth revisiting but the area has an undeniable charm. Also, whilst it was cold and raining in Marbella, this little stretch of coast has a micro climate that means its never really suffers from the Atlantic fronts that Marbella does. Last autumn I was back on the Costa Tropical for a press trip, and below is the feature I wrote – remarkable the micro climate allows all manner of tropical fruits to be grown all year round on the coast…
