Andalucia Diary – Seasonal Travel Notes

Quirky Lebanese Restaurant in Malaga’s old town

We discovered this place through a
recommendation; and to be fair if it hadn’t been recommended I don’t think we
would have found it or tried it!

It’s hidden away in the so far
unfashionable part of Malaga’s old town, in a dark corner of the street by an
adult bar – but don’t let that put you off!

Once the food arrives you are
transported to another world, one full of the seductive flavours and textures
of North African and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Mezze Samarkanda Restaurante, Malaga

Depending on who serves you, the
service can be a little unpolished, but we were looked after by Med who is
friendly and helpful.

A wonderful mezze of tabouli, humus, baba ghannouj, and hammara
(roasted red peppers, garlic and roasted nuts) started what was a superb and
excellent value lunch.

Then we tucked into fantastic baked chicken with
lemon and garlic; those super tasty spiced and sweet minced meat parcels and
some crispy Briwat with cheese.

The place is run by Moroccan and Lebanese and
the sweet mint tea was superb – but there is also strong cardamom and cinnamon
coffee.

We were even offered a ‘chupito’ (digestive) on
the house.

For the food and value it is highly recommended.
The restaurant itself is a little shabby and the loos are not well maintained, but
that sort of adds to the authentic feel!

Is there also a Lebanese Patissiery (sorry, can't spell it!) in Malaga….somewhere around the main market?

Hi Sandra, the truth is I don't know. I'll ask my friend at http://www.cookeatlivevegetarian.com as she knows the food places well.
