Casares Village

El Camino Ingles – the restored highway from Ronda, past Gaucin to the coast

If you’re looking for a driving tour close to the coast that gives you an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Andalucian countryside, then yo’d be well advised to take the newly renovated mountain road from the village of Gaucin to Ronda.

Last night we had dinner with friends in their mountain home, near the village of Casares. This morning we had breakfast on a sun drenched terrace of a small venta that overlooked the village towards the sea. I didn’t have my camera, so I took these snaps with my mobile phone. We then drove the “Camino Ingles”; so named as many Brits that used to live on Gibraltar in the last century used to take this romantic, scenic route to Ronda.

The drive is windy, but there are plenty of “Miradores” where you can park and take in the views that stretch out in front of you towards the Rock of Gibraltar & beyond. Most have creatively composed information plaques detailing geographical icons and details of flora and fauna.

We did this same route from Casares through Gaucin to Ronda in February this year. It was a lovely sunny day, snow still on the peaks and fabulous views.
