Andalucia Diary – Seasonal Travel Notes

View Reina Victoria Cropped

Hotel Reina Victoria, Ronda, Andalucia

For Christmas Eve, instead of staying in the family home, we stayed, as a treat, in the newly renovated Hotel Reina Victoria, now operated by Hoteles Catalonia.

Hotel Reina Victoria Ronda, Andalucia

Built in 1906 the hotel was a long term home for German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who wrote frequently about the city of his dreams. His room remains as a small exhibit in the hotel, and one of his most famous phrases ‘..la ciudad soñada..’  is seen on a sculpture as you enter the city.

The property has been renovated in a contemporary style, but sadly the finishing is lacking, and some elements like the new laminate flooring are not really to the standard that suits this period hotel.

However the terrace is stunning, and the rooms are large and most have private terrace – our room was very spacious with a huge terrace and breathtaking view over the tajo (cliff) towards the mountains.  The price was great too – during this opening season, take advantage of the launch prices online.
