Today, inspired by watching the kite surfers off San Pedro beach, I wanted to go to Tarifa, just down the coast. But today was a windy and chilly day and it wasn't especially clear. Instead I drove out to Casares, a pueblo blanco nestled in the Sierra Bermeja, north of Estepona.
The winding road from the coast takes you through the mountains to the village that usually affords stunning views of the Med, Gibralter and across to Morrocco. Sadly, today the clouds had gathered and the view was not as stunning.
There are a couple of charming churches and the remains of an Arabic fort, where one can look out across the gorge towards the coast, with a dramatic group of wind turbines in the foreground. Above glide groups of griffin vultures.
I’ve climbed to top of Casares by the church a few times but haven’t been lucky enough to see the kites and vultures yet. I’ll choose a windy day next time.
